Many jurisdictions require sustainable and energy or resource conserving elements included in the design and construction of new buildings or building additions. Here are a few LEED® credit areas where pre-engineered steel buildings can make a positive contribution:
MR 4 – Recycled Content
- In the most recent year for which data is available CBC Steel Buildings’ products had 89% recycled content (78% post consumer and 11% pre-consumer) by weight.
-
100% of the building’s steel content is recyclable at the end of the building life, or, if major changes or additions are made.
SS 7.2 – Heat Island Effect
- Our metal roofing systems have color coating systems formulated to meet SRI requirements for high or low slope.
EA prerequisite 1 and Credit 1 – Energy Performance
- Metal building systems can have high R value roof and wall insulation to improve heating and cooling performance.
-
100% of the building’s steel content is recyclable at the end of the building life, or, if major changes or additions are made.
- Steel roofing and siding with “Cool” coating have high SRI values so they stay cooler and allow less heat to enter the building.
MR 5 – Regional Materials
- Our steel building systems are fabricated here in Northern California.
-
100% of the building’s steel content is recyclable at the end of the building life, or, if major changes or additions are made.
-
Our steel building systems are manufactured in America from American steel and raw materials.
